MANY THANKS TO THE UNITED STATES EVENTING ASSOCIATION, PROFESSIONAL RIDERS ORGANIZATION, FRANCES PITTS, PRESIDENT OF THE USEA, HENRY AND OTHERS WHO BELIEVED IN THE CREATION OF THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND WANT TO SEE IT SUCCEED

Seema made public a few of her thoughts about volunteering for eventing and they were published at Eventing Nation. (http://eventingnation.com/seema-sonnad-on-a-mission-to-make-it-easier-to-volunteer/) in 2014. The USEA volunteer committee started from this outline.

Seema's Points:

VOLUNTEER STAR SYSTEM

Award veterans so others can use their help, make veteran volunteers easy to find with a special badge, lanyard, etc. they can wear on site.

VOLUNTEER DATA BASE

Help volunteer coordinators plan better; keep track of volunteer hours through online apps, etc. A good data base will not only allow us to attract a couple of sponsors (think numbers and sales) but help track volunteers.

VOLUNTEER EDUCATION

Online, smartphone-capable short videos to assist in educating jump judges, warmup coordinators, bit-checkers, etc. Short descriptions of jobs readily available at a central "roundup" page. An online portal at the fingertips of folks actually at the event.

VOLUNTEER TRAVEL GRANTS

Ways to have folks see how others do it, and get volunteers where they are needed

VOLUNTEER ROUNDUP

A place on the web to find information, sign up, be eligible for awards, publicize needs, stories about "Volunteers of the Month", etc.

 In Honor of

Seema Sonnad

1956-2015

Seema was a veteran volunteer who always found time to help. She supported eventing in many ways.

(2015) It is our hope that her volunteer legacy will become a national program to assist in achieving the goals of the United States Eventing Association and Professional Event Riders Association in encouraging eventing sport.

(2016) Our dreams have come true. Seema's ideas were enthusiastically received at the 2016 United States Eventing Association Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., and following a well-attended presentation by Dr. Bonnie Kibbie and Holly Covey, the USEA Board of Governors invited the two to present their details for a new Volunteer Program to the Board on Sunday morning, gaining approval for a committee to be formed.

The Committee is currently Dr. Bonnie Kibbie, Holly Covey, USEA President Elect Carol Kozlowski, USEA Area V Chairman Kathy Kerns, Sporting Days Horse Trials volunteer coordinator Ginny Allen.
